Belle of Music City

NEW RECORDING (June 2020) – LISTEN NOW! I have recently finished a shiny new demo of “Belle of Music City” (Version 2.0), a song I wrote circa 2005 shortly after moving to Nashville. A few years ago I uploaded a 4-Track vocal-guitar-bass demo of this song (Version 1.0) that I recorded with Tim Hazelton circa 2012, but this new demo is much more complete. It is an original lyric set to the tune of a traditional Irish folk song called, “I’ll Tell My Ma (Belle of Belfast City)”.

“Belle of Music City” Lyric

“Belle of Music City”
(by Ryan Byrne)

(Verse 1)
All___________________________________
the pretty girls in Nashville, Tennessee
is enough to put a fella on bended knee,
but you ain’t seen the finest of the fine
’til you see the girl that’s mine oh mine!

She’s pretty like a country melody,
yeah she got rhythm like R&B.
Like jazz and motown, she got soul,
she’ll swing all night and then rock ‘n’ roll.

(Chorus)
She is lovely, she is pretty,
she’s the belle of Music City.
I’m the envy of Tennessee
’cause all her love belongs to me!

(Verse 2)
When she heads downtown on ol’ Broadway
and she hears the beat her hips start to sway.
Never seen a pretty thing lookin’ just so right
dancin’ in the glow of those neon lights.

All the bands downtown play for tips in a jar,
barely make enough to pay their tabs at the bar.
But the jar always seems to weigh an extra pound
when they ask my southern belle to bring that tip jar ’round.

(Repeat Chorus)

(Verse 3)
All the Nashville cats say, “Go, cat, go!”
when they see my pretty kitty on Music Row.
She’s a honky-tonk angel dream come true
right there on 16th Avenue.

She can go anywhere, hang with any crowd –
she can be real quiet and get REAL LOUD!
She’s as wild as a redneck girl can be,
yet proper as the Nashville Symphony.

(Repeat Chorus)

(Bridge)
Ooooh
The “Knoxville Girl” may be in heaven,
but the “Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy” says you know where he’ll be found.
And that “Music Makin’ Mama From Memphis”,
you know tonight she’s Nashville bound . . .

(Verse 4)
. . . ‘Cause it’s a Grand Ol’ Opry Saturday night,
we’re dancin’ in the aisles ’til the mornin’ light –
without fail a big cowboy comes along
and asks if he can dance with her for just one song . . .

(Spoken Interlude)
. . . And I say, “Cowboy. While the music’s fast, be my guest, because cowboy

. . . She might dance with you when it’s up-tempo,
a quick two-step, and then Do-si-do,
but when they play a buckle-rubber, yes, a sweet slow dance,
the only buckle she’ll rub is holding up my pants!”.

(Repeat Chorus 2x)
